Why People Wear Jewelry

As far as we know, people have been wearing jewelery since the existence of mankind. So why are they doing that? There are actually several reasons. That’s probably why it’s so universal.

Jewellery American (jewelry) and British English (jewellery) are spelled differently in personal jewelry such as necklaces, rings, brooches and bracelets worn by everyone. It is usually made of some form of precious metal, but it can also be made of other materials and evaluated based on geometric, symbolic, artistic or other patterns.

The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about why people wear jewelery can be related to wealth. In many societies and cultures, gems are the most important means of expressing economic wealth. At some point, most of these cultures had the practice of storing large amounts of wealth in the form of gems, making them the way to store gems in the form of wealth and currency.

Even today, many cultures use jewelry in the form of symbolic or actual property transfers in wedding dowries and ceremonies. Jewelery was also used as a currency for trading commodities.

But it’s not just about money. Many jewelery items such as brooches, clasps, pins and buckles were created as purely functional objects and later evolved into decorative objects with the development of the garment itself, reducing the functional demands on the garment.

Some jewelry mainly has a symbolic purpose to show that it belongs to a group, such as wearing a Christian cross or the Jewish star of the Star of David, or a chain of office.

Ring wear that can also be used for status such as engagement, or for most Western customs where married people have a wedding. Different components and forms have been given different meanings at different times of history and in different parts of the world. For example, during the Victorian era, when Prince Albert presented Queen Victoria with a snake-shaped engagement ring, the snake meant “forever.”

Today, where we consider pretty jewelery to be rustic, decorative, entertaining and valuable, the original owner 150 years ago said that the same jewelery had a completely different, deeper meaning.

You may have known. In the past, and in some cases now, gems can be expected to provide protection, such as amulets and magical wards, to a lesser extent. In some cultures, it is common to wear amulets and devotional medals to provide protection and ward off evil. These can take the form of symbols (like ankh), stones, plants, animals, body parts (like Kamsa), or glyphs like stylized versions of the poetry of the throne of Islamic art. I can do it.The artist’s expression was clearly a jewel function from the beginning, but the other role mentioned above was in the foreground.

But nowadays, more generally, there is a tendency to wear jewelery on the display of taste, style and fashion consciousness. This trend probably began in the late 19th century with the work of masters such as Peter Carl Fabergé and Rene Lalique, and art began to take precedence over function and wealth.  This trend continues today and is magnified by artists such as Robert Lee Morris and Ed Levin.

Initially, the first jewelery was made of natural materials such as bones, animal teeth, shells, wood and carved stones. Over time, as a sign of social status, more jewelery has been made from rarer or more exotic materials for wealthier people. In these cases, stronger and more durable materials such as metal and gemstones are usually used, and more recently the hardest and most durable natural materials of all diamonds are used.

jewelery is designed to decorate almost every part of the body, from hairpins to toe rings to many other types of jewelery. Today, high-quality jewelery is made of precious stones and precious metals such as silver and gold, but there is also a growing demand for art jewelery that prioritizes design and creativity over the value of the material.

Also, costume jewelry mass-produced with non-high quality materials tends to be cheaper. This allows you to wear jewelry for a particular outfit or use disposable items for a one-time occasion.Costume jewelery has been part of the culture for nearly 300 years, beginning in the 18th century when cheap glass jewelery began to provide jewelery to the general public.

However, the most important growth in costume jewelery wearing began in the mid-20th century, using machines and state-of-the-art manufacturing methods to significantly reduce the cost of items.

In the 20th century, the average woman could afford to buy and wear large quantities of this affordable and stylish mass-produced jewelery. Costume jewelery has become desirable as well as affordable. Although popular with various designers in the mid-20th century, the main reason costume jewelry became popular was Hollywood movies, which could reach almost everyone in the world.

Major female stars of the 1940s and 1950s often wore and approved works created by many designers. Stars such as Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, and Jane Russell have appeared in the promotion of the work, and the availability of collections at the High Street Store has made it possible for ordinary women to own and wear such jewelery.

Today, the internet is accessible to everyone, making it easier than ever to find genuine quality jewelery at an affordable price. This jewelery was so affordable that it gradually became a habit for many women to buy jewelery to complement  a particular outfit. As a result, we rarely see women without jewelry today.

And here the pendulum begins to sway again, with less “bling”, more classes, and a noticeable return to jewelery made of truly valuable materials such as gold and silver. Designed and manufactured by a single craftsman only adds value.
